The most important area of RFID implementation in coal mining is safety. Therefore tags, antennas and RFID readers are used to create effective real time location systems (RTLS) to locate miners. In emergency situations, when every second counts, RFID will help in quick and precise location of imprisoned people.
The constant development of RFID allows to use this technology not only in rescue missions, but also to predict environmental threats. RFID tags, specials sensors operating in mesh networks and routers are the fundamental parts of such RFID systems, called real time sensing systems (RTSS). They offer possibility to initiate prevent activities and announce evacuation as soon as it is only possible. One second is enough to find out if all evacuated miners have reached the destination point.
Equally effective will be using RFID-based RTLS to monitor precious mining equipment.
RFID may be used for complex systems helping in identification and management of people and stuff flow. Such implementations work well in every type of mine: coalmine, strip mine or mine only for tourists.
